4 Main differences of New Vs Used Piano | New Vs Used Upright

Today we're going to talk about the differences of new vs used pianos. This comparison will take place between a Johannes Seiler upright piano, which is brand new, and a used Falcone upright piano. Let's start looking at what's different... This particular Falcone is a used piano, but it looks brand new. It looks like this piano, and that's because here at Stilwell pianos have a full service workshop, and we buff every single piano that comes through our doors. We also do polyester touch-up too. So a lot of times people come into our store and they go where's all the used pianos we say well the whole store is used! :) But we just do such a good job at kind of bringing these pianos up and making them look brand new, so that's one similarity already but another thing we notice right away... 1- The new technology: So on this brand new piano you have a brand new silent system on the piano, meaning that you can press the middle pedal down and over, and that locks this bar that's jumps right in between the hammers and the strings, and it stops the hammer from hitting the string about a centimeter before it hits, and now you have a keyboard. So now instead of hearing the strings ringing you can put headphones on, and hear, play very quietly, you're just hearing your kind of the fingers tapping the keys and that's about it. So that is a new feature, same with the nickel hardware. So that's one one major difference! 2- The piano warranty: Another major difference is the warranty; so in a new piano you're typically going to have a 10 year manufacturer's warranty, which means you can go anywhere in the country, and any registered piano technician can service this warranty. On a used piano; Typically, you have a store warranty, and a store warranty is probably going to be pretty location based like here in at Stilwell pianos. We offer a five-year warranty as long as you stay in the United States in Arizona, and a one-year warranty as long as you stay in the United States. 3- The piano price: Now the main difference that you're going to see when you come into the store... It is so much cheaper to buy used pianos, dramatically cheaper! This used piano is about less than a quarter of the price of the new piano! 4- Inside the pianos: So let us also show you what the differences are on the inside of the piano... If you look closely, they're very similar scale designs, and even the way the plate is laid out; they are different scale designs from what I understand, Seiler has their own designs for this, but they're pretty much identical, once again looking at them all open right next to each other, they look really similar, and that again kind of comes back to how far we go with our used pianos. I mean this particular piano; this is the new Seiler. Is it worth buying a new piano? Mind there is a place for new pianos for families that want to keep a piano for generations and generations, it might be better to start with a brand new piano, that's zero years old as opposed to one that already has 25 years of life on it. If you're the type of person that's going to get a new car every four to five years. Typically, it's better to buy a used piano. But if you're going to keep it longer than that, go with new pianos; you can pass it down generation to generation depending on the brand, and the quality it started as.
