The Nevada Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Agency Advisory Board (SAB) held a virtual public meeting on Feb. 8, 2023, to discuss several issues. The board heard presentations from members of Nevada’s regional behavioral health policy boards about bill draft requests that will be considered by the Nevada Legislature in the coming session. There were presentations about funding for the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Health Wellness and Prevention (BHWP) and about the SOR Grant. Updates on the Opioid Settlement and Problem Gambling Program were also heard. Nevada’s Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Agency (SAPTA) is part of the Bureau of Behavioral Health Wellness and Prevention (BBHWP) within the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH). SAPTA plans, funds, and coordinates statewide substance abuse delivery. The purpose of SAB is to advise the Agency Director of the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Agency concerning substance abuse issues to enhance the quality of services to achieve the following objectives: ensuring the availability and accessibility of treatment and prevention services; reducing drug and alcohol abuse; reducing the incidence of criminal involvement; increasing the availability of inpatient and outpatient services; increasing the number of adolescents who receive treatment; increasing the number of adolescents who receive prevention services; ensuring that services for continuing care and recovery support services are available, accessible, and affordable for those in need of the services; promoting the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse.
