Decortication in Pediatrics Age Group
In this presentation, Dr. Yousef Abu Asbeh, discuss our center's experience with the uniportal VATS (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery) approach for the management of pediatric empyema. Over a period of three years, we treated 72 children using this minimally invasive technique, comparing their outcomes to a group managed with fibrinolytic therapy. I highlight key findings on the differences in hospital stay, need for additional interventions, and overall patient recovery. This comparison offers valuable insights for thoracic surgeons and pediatric specialists looking to optimize the treatment of empyema in children. Stay tuned as I present technical tips, pitfalls, and lessons learned from this study. This presentation was delivered at the PAAFIS conference in October 2024.
