Wondering how music therapy can impact mind and movement? Participants share heartfelt vignettes, while doctors and our music therapist explain the science behind the experience. Thanks to the funds raised at the Power of Love gala, Cleveland Clinic Nevada’s specialized music therapy program is free to patients and families, with many of our programs also open to the community. Led by a board-certified and licensed music therapist, the innovative program uses music as a tool to help improve quality of life and manage common challenges for those living with neurodegenerative disorders, including: o Motor skills. o Speech and communication. o Memory and cognition. o Mood and coping. Cleveland Clinic Nevada offers both individual and group music therapy sessions: o Individual (Cleveland Clinic patients only): A music therapist will conduct an initial assessment, followed by individualized therapy designed to meet specific needs and goals. o Group: Designed to support specific goal areas while building community and promoting social interaction. Following our collaborative model, many of our groups incorporate additional types of therapy alongside music therapy. And you don’t need any music experience to benefit. Caregiver participation is always encouraged in individual and group music therapy sessions. Caregivers benefit alongside their loved ones through engagement in music. The experience can promote shared memories, improve mood, facilitate closeness, and provide a positive experience with their loved one amidst times that can often be challenging. Caregivers also can learn during sessions how to incorporate the use of music at home to support neuroprotection, mood, and daily routine.
