Trigger warning: if you are a rape victim, this powerful PSA might evoke intense emotion. Please know our intention is to seek justice for you, and all victims of this violent, heinous crime. Hundreds of thousands of untested rape kits are sitting—untested—on shelves in storage facilities around the country. When a person is sexually assaulted, and chooses to undergo the invasive four-to-six hour evidence collection examination at the hospital, they expect the kit will be tested and the evidence used to prosecute the attacker. The public expects the same. DNA evidence contained in rape kits is a powerful tool to solve and prevent crime. Rape kit evidence can identify an unknown assailant, link crimes together, and identify serial rapists. We should all be shocked and outraged by this injustice. While hundreds of thousands of rape kits languish untested, survivors wait for justice and rapists remain on the streets. Behind each of those kits is a person—a sexual assault survivor—who deserves to have that kit tested, who deserves justice. Survivors deserve better. We all deserve better. The Joyful Heart Foundation has a clear, ambitious goal: to eliminate the backlog of untested rape kits across the United States and prevent it from ever happening again. Our End The Backlog initiative is dedicated to solving this problem. We are working in Congress and state capitols around the country to change the way rape kits are handled, to expand survivors’ rights, and to make sure every single kit is tested. Every single kit, in every state. please watch and SHARE THIS PSA - go to endthebacklog.org for more information.http://www.endthebacklog.org/
