Virginia State Senate Debate - Charlottesville - October 9, 2019

Three candidates for the Virginia state senate faced off at a forum sponsored by the Senior Statesmen of Virginia in Charlottesville on Wednesday afternoon, October 9, 2019. Incumbent Senator R. Creigh Deeds (D-Bath County) and Elliott Harding (Ind.-Albemarle County) are running for the 25th District seat. Amy Laufer (D-Albemarle County) is challenging incumbent Senator Bryce Reeves (R-Louisa County) in the 17th District. Reeves was invited to this forum but chose not to participate. Daily Progress editorial page editor Anita Shelburne moderated the discussion and posed questions submitted by audience members. Topics covered included energy and the environment, gun regulations, taxes, the Dillon Rule, and bipartisan cooperation.
