미 대선 결과 한국 경제 영향 Welcome to Thursday's edition of Press Perspective for October 31st here in South Korea. I'm Min Sunhee. Today we touch upon the global trade implications of the U.S. presidential race and its result. For more I have Celio Fioretti a correspondent for French daily La Croix. Celio welcome back. I also have Professor Oh Joon-seok at Sookmyung Women's University. Professor Oh it's a pleasure to have you on. 1) Celio, let's begin with the little that has been shared about the trade policies of the two presidential nominees that both appear to "embrace tariffs" as the New York Times earlier reported. How are they similar; how do they differ; what are their implications for U.S. trade partners like South Korea and Europe? 2) Celio, according to economists interviewed by CNN, a second Trump administration is expected to "make the world poorer." Do tell us a bit about this coverage and the concerns shared by these economists. Also, what are your thoughts regarding these observations? 3) Professor Oh, this CNN article cites economists warning that former President Donald Trump's proposed tariffs "will hurt global economic growth." What looks to be the impact on South Korea's economy? 4) Celio, in contrast, Vice President Kamala Harris's economic policies have secured the support of 23 Nobel economists. Do tell us about their thoughts, first, on her policies, and then, on Mr. Trump's. 5) Professor Oh, speaking as a scholar yourself, what are your general thoughts on the idea of tariffs in global trade? 6) Professor Oh, according to an analysis by British daily Financial Times, South Korean businesses made the biggest project commitments in the U.S. last year at 21.5 billion U.S. dollars under the Biden-Harris administration. Do tell us a bit about the capital invested by Korean companies in the U.S. in 2023. 7) Meanwhile, Celio, you recently wrote a piece on Korea's advances in the chip industry. Do tell us a bit about your coverage, and how do you see this ambition being affected by the result of the latest U.S. presidential election? 8) Professor Oh, regardless of who wins the U.S. election, the government here said vowed to continue to invest in the U.S. What are your proposals for Korea's economic policies moving forward? 9) Celio, speaking as a journalist from Europe, what do you believe are the concerns within governments there with regard to the trade policies of the U.S. under a new leadership?
