Today I took the Sapa to Hanoi sleeper bus to finish off my Sapa 2020 series & brought me back home after 10 days of travelling north Vietnam. The Sapa to Hanoi sleeper bus is a cheap alternative to the limousine bus I took at the beginning of the trip. Travelling by bus from Sapa to Hanoi during the day & avoiding the overnight terrible service from the tourist buses is our recommendation for backpackers. We recommend using the day service with the Sao Vang (Gold Star) bus company. The guys on this bus were very friendly and helpful and even though didn't speak any English ( I speak a little Vietnamese) they would help in any way they could. This bus to Hanoi and beyond to Thai Binh departs Sapa bus station at 7.45am - 8am and arrives in My Dinh in Hanoi around 2pm - 2.15pm. The cost of this service is approximately 200,000 VND. My ticket was 240,000 VND due to being dropped off further from Hanoi near Nam Dinh. From My Dinh bus station, you will need to take a Grab taxi or motorcycle taxi and head in to the Old Quarter approximately 10km away. This bus also stops at Giap Bat bus station (near French hospital) but didn't on this occasion due to no passengers needing to. If you want to be dropped off at Giap Bat bus station (which is closer to Hanoi Old Quarter) you can, tell the bus conductor and he will make sure you get dropped off there. This bus had reclining seats with a cubby hole for your feet, although will be cumbersome for taller folks, it is still fine for children and shorter folks. Still not too bad for the price you pay. I visited Sapa during the pandemic of 2020 where no foreign tourists have been allowed entry in to Vietnam since March.
