Reader Rabbit Math Ages 6–8 (UK Edition) is part of The Learning Company's beloved Reader Rabbit series of educational games for children. Originally released in the UK in 1998 as the American version, it was later reissued in 2001 with British voice dubbing by GSP. The adventure begins when Reader Rabbit is reluctantly roped into a boat race by his enthusiastic friend, Sam the Lion. Their vessel—a battered sailboat lacking a rudder and sporting a patchwork sail—quickly falls behind the competition. In a bid to catch up, Sam proposes a daring shortcut that leads them into unfamiliar waters. Disaster strikes when a fierce storm hits, wrecking their boat and stranding them on the mysterious Pirate Island. Just as hope begins to fade, a helpful parrot named Penelope appears. She urges the duo to rebuild their boat using scattered parts hidden across the island. But their efforts are complicated by the island’s cheese-hoarding residents—the Pirates—who suspect Reader and Sam of plotting to steal their precious stash. Determined to stop the pair from escaping, the Pirates hatch a secret plan to sabotage their progress. Once you hit that target, you'll secure first place in the boat race, completing the challenge at the highest level.
