Insertion of a specific model of intraocular lens (three piece) There are two major kinds of posterior chamber intraocular lenses (PCIOLS): one piece and three piece lenses. In three piece lenses, the haptics or feet of the lens are made of a different material than the optic. The technique for inserting a three piece lens differs from the technique used to insert a one piece lens. A slightly larger wound (2.75 versus 2.4 mm) and slightly more manipulation is required. However, three piece lenses can be used in instances where a one piece lens would not be appropriate. Knowing how to insert a three piece lens enables the surgeon to deal with more scenarios.
