(10 Jun 2014) Baby caymans rescued from the illegal wildlife trade were displayed at a Peru zoo in Lima on Monday. Caymans are relatively small crocodylians which are native to Latin America. Peru is stepping up its efforts to combat poaching and illegal trade in wildlife and the Park of Legends zoo is one of the country's flagship conservation institutions. Carlos Parraga, head of animal management at the zoo, said four cayman's were rescued from a foreign national in Chiclayo, north of Lima, who had purchased them illegally. Two of the Caymans died before they could be brought back to the zoo, he said.
