पार्वती वल्लभ अष्टकम् (Parvati Vallabha Ashtakam) is a powerful hymn glorifying Lord Shiva as the beloved of Goddess Parvati — the compassionate protector, destroyer of negativity, and the supreme refuge of devotees. Though traditionally called an Ashtakam, many recensions include nine devotional verses, each concluding with the sacred line: “भजे पार्वतीवल्लभं नीलकंठम्” — I worship Neelkanth Shiva, the beloved of Parvati. This stotram celebrates the many dimensions of Mahadev: • The destroyer of time • The yogi of Kailasa • The compassionate protector • The cosmic consciousness behind creation Chanting this hymn invokes the grace of Shiva and Shakti together. 📜 VERSE-BY-VERSE 1️⃣ नमो भूतनाथं नमो देवदेवं नमः कालकालं नमो दिव्यतेजम् । नमः कामभस्मं नमः शांतशीलं भजे पार्वतीवल्लभं नीलकंठम् ॥ Meaning: • Salutations to the Lord of all beings • Salutations to the God of gods • The destroyer of Time itself • The radiant divine presence He is the one who burned Kama (desire) to ashes and embodies eternal tranquility. 👉 I worship Neelkanth Shiva, the beloved of Parvati. 2️⃣ सदा तीर्थसिद्धं सदा भक्तरक्षं सदा शैवपूज्यं सदा शुभ्रभस्मम् । सदा ध्यानयुक्तं सदा ज्ञानतल्पं भजे पार्वतीवल्लभं नीलकंठम् ॥ Meaning: Shiva is: • The source of all sacred pilgrimage power • The protector of devotees • Worshipped by Shaiva traditions everywhere • Adorned with sacred ash He is eternally absorbed in meditation and supreme knowledge. 👉 I worship Neelkanth Shiva. 3️⃣ श्मशाने शयानं महास्थानवासं शरीरं गजानां सदा चर्मवेष्टम् । पिशाचादिनाथं पशूनां प्रतिष्ठं भजे पार्वतीवल्लभं नीलकंठम् ॥ Meaning: Shiva resides even in cremation grounds — symbolizing transcendence beyond fear. • Wearing elephant or tiger skin • Lord of all beings • Master even of spirits and unseen forces He reminds us that the divine exists beyond social constructs and fear. 4️⃣ फणीनागकंठे भुजंगाद्यनेकं गले रुंडमालं महावीर शूरम् । कटिव्याघ्रचर्मं चिताभस्मलेपं भजे पार्वतीवल्लभं नीलकंठम् ॥ Meaning: Shiva is adorned with: • Serpents around His neck • A garland of skulls • Tiger skin at His waist • Sacred ash covering His body These symbolize detachment from worldly illusion and mastery over death. 5️⃣ शिरः शुद्धगंगा शिवा वामभागं वियद्दीर्घकेशं सदा त्रिनेत्रम् । फणीनागकर्णं सदा फालचंद्रं भजे पार्वतीवल्लभं नीलकंठम् ॥ Meaning: • Holy Ganga flows from His matted locks • Parvati resides on His left side • He possesses the three eyes of cosmic wisdom • The crescent moon shines on His forehead This imagery represents cosmic balance and spiritual illumination. 6️⃣ करे शूलधारं महाकष्टनाशं सुरेशं परेशं महेशं जनेशम् । धनेशामरेशं ध्वजेशं गिरीशं भजे पार्वतीवल्लभं नीलकंठम् ॥ Meaning: Shiva holds the trident — destroyer of suffering. He is: • Lord of gods • Supreme ruler • Master of mountains • Protector of devotees His trident symbolizes destruction of ego, ignorance, and attachment. 7️⃣ उदासं सुदासं सुकैलासवासं धरानिर्झरे संस्थितं ह्यादिदेवम् । अजं हेमकल्पद्रुमं कल्पसेव्यं भजे पार्वतीवल्लभं नीलकंठम् ॥ Meaning: Shiva resides in Kailasa, detached from worldly desires. He is: • The primordial deity • Eternal and unborn • Worshipped like a divine wish-fulfilling tree. 8️⃣ मुनीनां वरेण्यं गुणं रूपवर्णं द्विजैः संपठंतं शिवं वेदशास्त्रम् । अहो दीनवत्सं कृपालुं शिवं तं भजे पार्वतीवल्लभं नीलकंठम् ॥ Meaning: The sages praise Shiva through the Vedas.
