Mark got back into drag racing after 40 years. In 2021, he had us build a Drag & Drive, 427 cubic inch, hydraulic-roller LS for his 1994 Chevy S10 truck. Importantly, he had us put together an engine that had room for future growth. It featured a Dart SHP Pro block with half inch head studs, Callies Magnum crank and Ultra Enforcer rods, custom Diamond Pistons, All Pro heads and a massive 104mm, large-frame, Bullseye NLX turbo. Not surprisingly, Mark and his truck had a learning curve. He started out running E85 with more power than he could stick while running 28-30 pounds boost. New shocks with travel sensors were installed front & back, his Hoosier D07’s were switched to softer D05’s. Mark also decided to switch from E85 to methanol. By the end of last season, he had broken into the 4’s. Mark’s new goal is getting into the 4.5’s. The turbo can deliver well over 40 pounds boost, so we needed to make some changes. The block, crank & rods were fine, but we moved into custom Diamond full-round pistons. These are stronger and maintain more contact with the cylinder wall to prevent rocking while also reducing crankcase pressure. The 0.842” diameter hydraulic rollers were replaced with 0.904” mechanical roller lifters. This set up was then paired with Jesel shaft rockers and heavier Manton pushrods with upgraded higher-hardness tips. Mark’s Dart block and All Pro heads were machined for hoops to go with the copper head gaskets required to hold the higher boost.
