USS Mobile Bay CG-53 Desert Storm CNN Clip

CNN on board USS Mobile Bay CG-53 during the First Gulf War, Desert Storm. During the war, she assessed hostile air tracks to be Iraqi SCUD missiles and relayed track data to shore-based Patriot anti-ballistic missile batteries in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, facilitating defensive engagement. This was a new capability of the AEGIS Weapon System discovered by the crew which served as the genesis for today’s shipborn anti-ballistic defense program, Pathfinder. MOBILE BAY was a great ship with a great crew. We called her "The Mob" & those of us who served on her "Mobsters". In addition to the SCUD track identification, the MOB launched 22 Tomahawk cruise missiles and sunk/destroyed 38 Iraqi naval vessels - neutralizing the Iraqi navy. While operating in a known minefield, alert lookouts found 13 mines, one of which was a cluster of 8 mines! I was a young Gunner's Mate on board at the time. Couldn't ask for better shipmates. (sorry for the quality, its a 30+ year old VHS, after all....)
