I wrote this song in 2007. I had my guitar tuned down 1/2 step because I had been playing several Collective Soul songs (Ed Roland seems to enjoy writing there). I wanted to do something different so I made a really long opening line. The song is about passively being on the sidelines and watching the world go by before you. You can wallow in it and feel like a victim, or you can bear up and do something about it. Our character had been wallowing until he saw an opportunity...and he didn't let it pass him by. Passings come, and passings go. Why be a spectator when you can be a participant? Why feel like a victim when you ALONE are in control of your life. Don't blame others for your misery...jump in the saddle and ride point.
