Beneath the waves lies a rich kelp forest supporting colorful marine life like garibaldi, moray eels, nudibranchs, and sheephead fish. Natural sulfur hot springs, once reaching about 82°F, still bubble from fractures in the bedrock, remnants of a geothermal system that once fed a seaside resort in the 1920s and ’30s, complete with a hotel, bathhouse, and ballroom until it was shut down by the 1933 earthquake.
