I prefer to make my friendship bracelets with 6-strand cotton embroidery floss - specifically DMC brand Forward knots used in making friendship bracelets are a little different from the double half hitches you might be used to with macrame. With double half hitch knots, they're tied with the holding cord in front and the working cord wrapped around from behind. But forward knots, the working cord starts in front.
