In other news, we examine the UK’s increasingly over-stretched electricity grid, in light of the huge and burgeoning demands placed on generation capacity by the AI revolution – that is, the ongoing and rapid adoption of artificial intelligence computer software. “Without urgent action to stabilise and expand generation capacity, particularly gas-fired generation”, the UK faces “escalating risks of electricity supply shortfalls and widespread system failures well before 2030”. That’s the conclusion of a new report "Electrification, can the grid cope?" by independent energy consultant Kathryn Porter - a no-holds barred assessment of the crisis facing the UK’s energy infrastructure. Kathryn Porter joins me to discuss the UK’s energy strategy, why net zero targets won’t be met and the danger of energy blackouts. Net zero promises, she says, should not be prioritised over public safety. Liam is also joined on this latest show by Malcolm Gooderham, Senior Partner of Elgin Advisory, a leading political strategist whose advice is sought by countless firms and investors.
