Jacob Sacks is one of the most esteemed pianists of his generation, having played with the drummer Paul Motian, the saxophonist Dave Binney and many more, and led his own bands including a trio with Thomas Morgan on bass and Dan Weiss on drums. in 2014 the New York Times said "The pianist Jacob Sacks is what you might call an inner-workings musician, drawn to the subtler, deeper mechanics of harmony and form. Over the last dozen years, this has made him a superb ensemble player in the expressionist wing of modern jazz, someone who raises the bar for group cohesion without drawing much attention to himself." He's released a series of six trio albums focusing on composers from Sonny Rollins and Benny Golson to Cy Coleman, and works with the singer Yoon Sun Choi. He moves effortlessly between the worlds of jazz, the avant guard and contemporary classical music. While our live programming is on hold due to Covid 19, the Arts Center at Duck Creek has commissioned a series of short "stay at home" concerts for your listening pleasure. The purpose of the Covid Commissions was first to provide income and a performance platform for musicians who were struggling in this difficult time. The second was to spread good music throughout our community during a time when the social aspects of making and listening to music have become almost impossible. And finally we wanted to showcase the extraordinary talent of a group of New York based musicians who had been defining musical terms in an area somewhere between genres, making something new. This program was curated by Peter Watrous and is supported by the Willem de Kooning Foundation, the HiLo Foundation and donations from people like you! www.duckcreekarts.org
