The Subaru Solterra is much more than just a new electric SUV, it also marks the next stage of the company's evolution. Like the rest of the motor industry, this Japanese car brand famous for off-roaders and four-wheel drive rally cars has to move with the times, and the Solterra is the firm's first all-electric offering. Thanks to a joint development project between the two companies, the Solterra shares its internals with the Toyota BZ4X, although while that car is available with front- or four-wheel drive, the Solterra - in true Subaru tradition - is all-wheel drive only. Two electric motors provide 215bhp, and the car has an official WLTP range of up to 289 miles. And the Solterra is new. We mean REEEEEALLY new. So new, in fact, that when we asked Subaru UK when we might be able to review it, they told us it'd be around four months away.
