There are many misconceptions about bipolar disorder. Some people believe that the disorder is not very common or it is simply a series of mood swings. Bipolar disorder features cycles or episodes that last from weeks to months, unlike mood swings that pass rather quickly. Bipolar disorder often worsens without treatment, so it’s essential to learn about symptoms to reduce stigma and encourage people to seek help. The Anti-Stigma Coalition hosts a Facebook Live on March 19 at 12pm est to dispel common myths and share stories of hope and recovery. Featured panelists: • Danielle Bernas LMSW, Director of Refugee & Immigrant Center for Healing, Jewish Family Service of Buffalo & Erie County, • Kelly Dumas, LMSW, Founder and CEO, DUMAS R.I.S.E. Providers, Inc. Danielle will share her personal experiences with bipolar disorder. Our Moderator will be Karl Shallowhorn. This is the second in a series of Facebook Live events focused on a specific mental health disorder. Viewers will learn more about specific disorders, and can be more sensitive to the needs of the people in their lives who may be living with a mental health challenge.
