With the approach of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee rail enthusiasts will not need to be reminded that four steam locomotives still exist in the UK with a direct link back 77 years to a previous Jubilee celebration. In 1935 Stanier and his colleagues at the LMS were furiously re-equiping the railway with a class of 3-cylinder 4-6-0 express passenger locomotives, which they decided to name in honour of the Silver Jubilee of King George V. One was named Silver Jubilee and others were given Commonwealth names. Of the four Jubilee Class locos that still exist, three have been fully operational in recent years; one is a restoration project for the future.
