NOTE: I'm aware this isn't particularly funny. - "I got up immediately and ran towards the ones I so longed to meet, calling out that name, so dear to me, over and over again." - Check out the rest of /v/ the musical here: https://vthemusical.bandcamp.com /v/ the musical video playlist: • /v/ - The Musical - A labour of love celebrating the friendship between best girl Kainé and best boy Emil from NieR, feat. Nier getting his shit slapped and Weiss being a dumbass. Also, I spoil pretty much the entirety of Emil's story in NieR and Emil's sidequests in NieR: Automata, so you've been warned! It wouldn't be a video for an Avril Lavigne song if it didn't look like a 2000s AMV, right? Well, before writing this song, I had never heard an Avril Lavigne song before (not counting other /v/ the musical songs), so I had to take one for the team, do my research, and watch some older AMVs. Special thanks to the amazing singer who not only brought this song to life but also helped me out throughout the musical; thanks to my foxy pal who aided me in replicating the NieR UI; thanks to my phriendly buddy for being patient with me and isolating the lunar flower decoration in the NieR: Automata title screen; and thanks to my dear friend for listening to me ramble about these two pals for hours despite never playing NieR and who encouraged me to write this song. The text scrolling at the bottom of the screen is the entirety of "Emil's Recollection", edited only for formatting clarity, which you can find here https://theark.wiki/w/Emil%27s_Recoll.... Thank you to the original writer and the translator. Fun fact: the combined assets for this video (not counting the video itself) came out to over 20 GB. Footage is taken from both Gestalt and RepliCant (as well as a few clips from Automata), so thank you to everyone who worked on those games. All artwork used in this video is concept art or official art, so thank you to the tireless fans who scanned those pages and made them available in the first place. All text seen in the "wish you were here" portions of the video and the ending is in-game dialogue, painstakingly isolated from screenshots of the game, so thank you to the writers. You can tell if a piece of dialogue is meant to take place in the past (NieR) or the present (NieR: Automata) by the font used, since the games are quite distinct in their presentation! Before someone calls me a fujoshi/SJW/whatever, Yoko Taro confirmed that Emil is "homosexual", and the line is referring to the two of them finding commonality in their being seen as deviants by society, not only for being monstrous, but for Kainé having a dick and Emil being gay. I chose to use RepliCant's design for Nier throughout the video for consistency; I opted to use that design because more art for it exists and because that's the design drawn in the image officially accompanying the release of "Emil's Recollection". The name of the original song is "Wish You Were Here". In the Drag-on Dragoon and NieR games, each ending is labelled with a particular letter, such as "the [E]nd of the dragon sphere" as Ending E in the original title. With that in mind, the bad ending relating to Emil in NieR: Automata is Ending Y, "head[Y] battle". Since this video is about the alternative good ending to Emil's story, which is necessarily unnamed in the game, I chose to give him a new Ending Y: "wish [Y]ou were NieR". In the very last image of the group all together, that's Kainé's hand lovingly patting Emil's head. ;_;7 Last, but certainly not least, thank you very, very much for watching. I love ya buddy. - "Isn't that right, Kainé!?" Help us caption & translate this video! https://amara.org/v/nKxd/
