Sagip Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta and Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela had a heated exchange on Tuesday (February 18) over the lawmaker's recent claim that there is no such thing as the "West Philippine Sea." Marcoleta confronted Tarriela during the House tri-committee inquiry into the spread of misinformation and disinformation online, specifically taking issue with being branded as "pro-China" and a "traitor" by vloggers. The "traitor" tag, Marcoleta pointed out, was attributed to Tarriela — an accusation the PCG official denied. When Marcoleta asked why he did not bother to correct or clarify that he did not use the word, Tarriela retorted he is under no obligation to come to his defense, especially as the congressman is currently a senatorial candidate. Tarriela then brought up to the joint panel that Marcoleta had called him "g*go" and "mangmang," citing a transcript of a February 10 interview. "Why would I even defend you when you're calling me g*go?" he told the lawmaker.
