https://www.afibsurgeons.org - In this discussion on physician adoption of surgical ablation during their “Fireside Chat” segment, Drs. Kiankhooy and George remedy some career-spanning struggles facing surgeons performing surgical ablation. Some of the struggles include fear of performing surgical ablation when it is not a part of a surgeons culture and practice routine and a lack of guidance and adoption when switching to a new institution. Dr. Kiankhooy presents data on cardiothoracic residents which shows that on average, they perform five surgical ablations. On a scale of zero to five, they feel about a three in level of comfort in performing a surgical ablation. Dr. Kiankhooy thinks that this really speaks to the potential of training programs to continue to bring residents up to speed on how to do a surgical ablation, and for them to feel safe, and to feel comfortable.
