Today we are Baker Street station in the heart of London. This is one of the original stations that were part of the world’s first underground railway, the Metropolitan Railway, which ran from Paddington to Farringdon Street via Edgware Road, Baker Street, Portland Road, Gower Street and King’s Cross. The station opened on 10 January 1863. Today the station is served by five different Underground lines on 10 platforms: The Metropolitan, Circle, Hammersmith & City, Bakerloo and Jubilee lines. In the film we focus on the historic parts of the station, served by the subsurface lines (Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City, Circle). The first part shows the oldest platforms that opened in January 1863 and are today served by the Hammersmith & City and Circle lines. We then turn towards today’s Metropolitan line platforms, which are open air and branch off to the north. This line was opened in April 1868, just five years later, however, today’s layout of the platforms mostly dates from 1925. Enjoy! Filmed: Thursday, May 5, 2016
