The festival will feature performances, yet unseen. In collaboration with attenDance, India's only yearbook on dance. New episode every weekend. Episode 6: Kuchipudi by Deepa Narayanan Sashindran 1. Nandanar Charitam Nandanar was a great devotee of Lord Shiva in South India who hails from a humble agricultural family. The 12th-century CE, epic, "Periye Puranam" gives a full hagiographical account of his life. The tale focuses on two miracles attributed to him. In Sivalokanathar temple, Tirupunkur, his prayers are said to have moved a giant stone bull, which still appears in the moved position in the temple. Nandanar is said to have ritually purified himself by fire at Thillai Nataraja Temple, Chidambaram. Nandanar's tale features in temple lore and religious literature related to both these temples. Highland River Adapted from Neil M Gunn's novel, "Highland River" into the Indian context. Here, the river is in conversation with the author about the journey it undertakes to finally reach its destination. About the Artiste: Deepa Narayanan Sashindran, a versatile artiste of the Kuchipudi dance style of this generation has been mastering the art form last four decades. Initially, under the renowned Kuchipudi exponent Guru Manju Barggavee, following the Legacy of the Late Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam, she continues to strive independently, exploring the finer nuances of creativity in Kuchipudi artform. She has carved a niche with original choreographic works that include authentic numerous solo repertoires, features, and dance dramas. She is fully engaged in teaching aspirants in India, the USA, Australia, South Korea, and UAE at Kuchipudi Parampara Foundation, Bangalore a non-profit trust that she founded with an eminent advisory committee to propagate Indian art forms.
