How do you prove that punk is not dead? First you must look at what punk is not. A mohawk, chains and a pair of Docs doesn't make you punk, nor does a collection of Sex Pistols and The Clash albums. Punk is a way of life and a way of looking at the world based on the tenets of freedom and rebellion against authority and conformity (like punk has symbolised since the 70s). If you accept that premise, then you can find true punks in Camden, on the bridge over the Regent's Canal near Camden Lock. In part 1 of the documentary series "Punks on the Bridge", we introduce you to some of the Camden punks and let you hear what punk means to them. Future series will delve deeper into punk culture and share personal stories of drug addiction, homelessness and mental illness. Our goal is to share a different side of punk culture and the protective family who welcome everyone no matter where they are from, what they look like or what they wear. Isn't that the true meaning of punk? Everyone is welcome. We must warn you that as much as we tried to be objective, there is an energy on the bridge that pulls you in, in to a different perspective, in to a sense of belonging. It's intoxicating. Over the six months of filming and the countless number of people we met, interviewed and observed, our impression after five minutes of being on the bridge is only stronger after hours. No two days are the same, and you see some "crazy shit" as many punks point out, but the bridge remains a welcoming place and a home to all who respect it. We can't capture the true pulse of the bridge and of the punks in Camden even if the series included hundreds of episodes. And although we feel like we still don't truly understand the magic, we are desperate to return and try. Thank you to Zombie Punk, the most famous of the Camden punks, and to Lucky Punk, both of whom will feature in separate series so you can hear their stories. Thank you to everyone on the bridge for welcoming us and making this documentary possible. We will treasure and protect your stories. A special thank you to Alan Myatt, the Town Crier to the City of London's world-famous Stables Market and to the Covent Garden Area Trust, as well as, theTown Crier to the City of Gloucester and the market town of Hitchin. In addition to being the loudest crier, recording a cry of 112.8 decibels, he also set the Guinness world record for vocal endurance, issuing a one-hundred word proclamation every 15 minutes for a period of 48 hours. https://www.thememan.co.uk/ NOW FOR THE LEGAL BITS: All content in this documentary series belongs to MadLegs Media, and specifically, Rebecca Huffine, with the exception of music (credits below) and the cover image (link below).
