The Olivenza (or Olivença) issue is the dispute between Spain and Portugal over this city of Badajoz. Once Portuguese, it was conquered by Godoy's Spain in 1801 in the Orange War. Although the European powers recognized the legality of the Portuguese claims at the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Spain has retained it until today. Today it is a city that feels Spanish but is proud of its Portuguese past. What do you think? (Note: the Olivenza City Council was consulted by email about aspects such as the feelings of its inhabitants and the position of the Oliventino municipality for the preparation of this video, without receiving a response). Directed by the prestigious medievalist Vicente Álvarez Palenzuela, it has the courage to incorporate various specialists in each subject, which is why it provides a multitude of points of view that make it an extremely enriching work. In the case of this video, it helped me correctly frame the genesis of the city of Olivenza in the Kingdom of León, its subsequent integration in Castile and its transfer to Portugal.
