Gli intercity giorno e gli intercity notte sono trainati dalla splendida locomotiva E 656 (caimano). In tutta Italia sono rimasti pochi esemplari , la maggior parte è stata accantonata alcune trasformate in E 655 per il trasporto merci e parecchie sono state demolite .Spero di vederle ancora per parecchio tempo sui binari siciliani in testa agli IC ICN .In parecchi passaggi si vede bene il serpeggio della E 656 problema molto noto per le locomotive a doppia semi cassa articolata.
