Keith Ray Nevels was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, where he grew up in a musically gifted family that nurtured his passion for music from an early age. Surrounded by melodies and harmonies in his home, Keith’s love for music blossomed. He began taking piano lessons in the fourth grade, and his dedication to the craft continued throughout high school, laying a strong foundation for his future in music and ministry. In 1980, Keith moved to Los Angeles, where he served as the Minister of Music for a prominent mega-church until 1997. During this time, he played a pivotal role in shaping the church’s worship experience, coordinating music programs, leading choirs, and mentoring aspiring musicians. From 1997 to 2002, Keith served as the music coordinator and choir director for the oldest African-American Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, further cementing his reputation as a gifted leader in sacred music. Since 2002, Keith has been an integral part of the music staff at West Angeles Church of God in Christ, one of Los Angeles’ largest and most renowned places of worship. As the conductor of The Cathedral Chorale Choir, a dynamic group of over 110 members, Keith has led the ensemble in performances that inspire and uplift. Before the COVID-era, he led the congregation in hymns at both morning services, fostering a spirit of unity and praise. In addition, he provided music for all church funerals, offering comfort and solace to grieving families through heartfelt keyboard performances and solos. Keith’s musical talents extend beyond West Angeles Church. He has provided music and vocal leadership for Presbyterian, Baptist, and Lutheran congregations, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to serving diverse communities of faith. His journey reflects a harmonious blend of talent, faith, and service, leaving a lasting impact on the worship experiences of countless individuals.
