Shane's approach to sharpening reels is different than most: instead of the reel grinding machine you may be familiar with, Shane sharpens the reels he manufactures (and 2nd-hand reels) on the lathe for a mirror finish on the cutting edge. To achieve a quality result, Shane has invested significant time and money experimenting with different cutting tips and configurations. Cutting a reel on the lathe allows Shane to manage and deal with vibration--vibration which is otherwise invisible on the grinder.
