Performance 1 july 2017. Chalo Correia is a talented singer-songwriter born in 1968 in Luanda. He spent his early childhood during the most turbulent music period of Angola, the 70's. During that time he met musicians from revolutionary bands like Os Merengues and Os Kiezos, which would greatly affect his future music style. He moved to Portugal in the early 1990s, where he devoted himself to the spread of Angolan music roots in Europe and Brazil. Chalo regards it as his challenge to renew Angolan music without neglecting its roots. His debut album, released in June 2015, is called 'Kudihohola', which means 'restore a hangover' or 'reboot'. In this way, Chalo brings about a reboot by revising the ancient rhythms of Angola. Chalo brings the explosive sounds of traditional styles 'semba' and 'rebita' with his contemporary vision; He remains in touch with the modern urban afro music scene in Lisbon. His texts are influenced by memories of his life in Angola and his experiences in the multicultural environment of Lisbon. Chalo is the great promise of a new generation of Angolan musicians.
