TOPIC Join us as we embark on an engaging overview of forest ecology and the history of forestry in Texas, highlighting the unique role of W.G. Jones State Forest. Participants will explore past and current management practices, including conservation of the Red‑cockaded Woodpecker, implementation of Best Management Practices, and ongoing education and outreach efforts. The session also showcases current initiatives such as the native tree and plant nursery project and how they support forest health, research, and community stewardship. PRESENTER Jaden Kelly is a Conservation Education Program Specialist with the Texas A&M Forest Service, where he leads education, outreach, and service programs at the W.G. Jones State Forest and across the Greater Houston Region. Jaden also co-coordinates Project Learning Tree for the State of Texas, helping educators and community partners connect children to forests and natural resources through hands‑on learning. Jaden earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science with a concentration in restoration ecology from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2019. After graduating, he worked in the restoration ecology field along the Texas coast, contributing to ocelot and whooping crane habitat restoration efforts. Jaden later served as the 4‑H & Youth Development Agent for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Harris County before transitioning to his current role with Texas A&M Forest Service.
