The footage was made in 1984 as the part of Wushu Survey in Henan Province, and shows old generation of Taijiquan experts from Wen County (mainly Chenjiagou) before the Big Four (Chen Xiaowang, Chen Zhenglei, Zhu Tiancai and Wang Xi'an) became famous. Unfortunately with some exceptions not much is known about them, apparently they did not have many disciples, and most of what we see of Chenjiagou Taijiquan taught outside comes from a small group of students Chen Zhaopei and Chen Zhaokui. I am still in the process of collecting information about the people on the video and will be updating this text when I find more. Please make sure the subtitles are turned on! The video shows the following practitioners: 1.Chen Zhenwen (80 years old at the time - born in 1904) - First Set of Old Frame Chen Zhenwen studied with Chen Fake before Chen Fake moved to Beijing in 1928. 2.Chen Heitao (75) - Second Set of Old Frame 3.Chen Xucai (76) - First Set of Old Frame 4.Chen Lanru (69) - Halberd ("Big Halberd of Autumns and Springs") In 1932 Chen Lanru (1915-2001) won the 2nd place in the martial arts fighting competition in Kaifeng. She studied Small Frame from Chen Xingsan, her uncle. 5.Chen Shuyuan (68) - First Set of Old Frame Chen Shuyuan (1916-?) won 1st place in routine competiton at the Henan Guoshu Academy in the 1930s. 6.Chen Boxian (66) - First Set of Small Frame Chen Boxian (1920-1989), studied Small Frame since childhood under his father's guidance, later learning also from Chen Ziming and Chen Jin'ao (Small Frame) as well as Chen Zhaopi and Chen Zhaokui (Large Frame). However he was mainly known as the historian and scholar who made significant contribution in collecting and preserving many old historical documents and records kept by clan members. It was also thanks to his efforts that a Taijquan school was established in the village in the 1960s and the family arts have been preserved there since - and the teaching was continued further in 1970s with a break due to the Cultural Revolution. 7.Wang Sigong (75) - First Set of Small Frame Wang Sigong developed his own unique frame of Taijiquan, based on his studies of the Small Frame of Chen style, Zhaobao Taijiquan and Hulei Frame Taijiquan. 8.Zheng Rui (70) - Small Frame of Zhaobao He Style Taijiquan Zheng Rui (1917-?), older son of legendary Zheng Wuqing. Zheng Rui studied Tengnuo Frame since childhood, and later focused on the Small Frame of Daili ("Representing Principles") Frame under He Qingxi. Daili Frame was created by He Zhaoyuan, a disciple of Chen Qingping. 6.Liu Xizhong (77) The voice over says that Liu Xizhong demonstrates First Set of Small Frame of Chen Style Taijiquan, however Li was a disciple of Qin Zuofu and practitioner of Zhaobao Taijiquan system coming from Li Zuozhi, one of most accomplished students of Chen Qingping. This is one of the more obscure and little known branches of Taijiquan coming from the Zhaobao area. 7.Chen Lanru and Chen Shuyuan - Push Hands 8.Liu Huoqi - Ten Roads of Tantui Very interesting demonstration of otherwise common basic set of kicking techniques, with heavy influence of Taijiquan. 9.Wang Dun - First Routine of Huling Frame Taijiquan Wang Dun (also known as Wang Julang), studied from his father Wang Xuefu. The practitioners of this particular line claim the system was created by cooperation of two disciples of Chen Qingping: Wang Cixin and Li Jingyan, and refer to their style as Huling ("Sudden and Agile"), while other lineages coming from Li Jingyan usually use the name Hulei - Sudden Thunder. 10.Chen Chun'ai - First Set of Old Frame Chen Chun'ai learnt Taijiquan from Zhu Tiancai first and then followed Wang Xi'an.
