Kodanad Elephant Training Centre | Abhayaranyam Eco Tourism | Kaprikkad Mini Zoo | Jasmin Nooruniza Kodanad is a rural riverside village of Ernakulam district in Kerala, South India. Kodanad is situated on the south bank of Periyar river, about 20 km from Cochin International Airport. Kodanad Elephant Training Centre, one of the largest elephant training centers in Kerala. It used to be an elephant training centre, now more of a rehabilitation centre. There are about 6 elephants. Earlier, elephants were captured in the Malayattoor forests and trained at Kodanad. Though capturing Elephants are banned now and Kodanad has just become the training centre for elephants. There are many walkways beside the river that give pleasant experience to the visitors. There is a small wildlife park at the centre which is a home of deer and other wildlife. Visitors can visit daily during the hours of 8am-to 5pm. It is always advisable to check whether the training centre presently have elephants before visit.
