So along with the supporting bone the patient starts losing with time, so whenever a patient is planning dental implant, and we require adequate amount of the bone in terms of the quantity and the quality. Patient has not undergone for tooth replacement. For quite long the patient loses lot amount of bone along with that. So when there is no deficiency of the bone in terms of quantity and quality, that we need to do is we need to do a procedure called as grafting where we place a bone material along with the host bone. So this bone either we can take out from the patient’s mouth or we can put a synthetic material or maybe combination of these two. So after we place these grafting at the implant site, this synaptic bone or the lost bone combines with wherever the tooth is missing, a new bone will be formed. So if the bone is adequate in terms of quantity and quality, then we can place implants. Sometimes during the grafting procedure, we assess the site, if the bone volume is good enough then at the same appointment we place the dental implants also.
