Rethinking Smart Cities. Leaving no one behind Over the past decade, "Smart City" has become a widely used term. But what does truly define a Smart City? Is it merely a marketing buzzword, or does it represent a genuine opportunity to improve urban life? This session invites a critical exploration on Smart Cities and the role technology plays in shaping the cities of tomorrow. Can technological innovation drive progress toward more liveable, sustainable, and inclusive urban environments — or are we facing a future where technology distances us further from our humanity? We will examine the underlying ideas, the real-world implications, and the open questions that continue to shape this evolving concept. Cristina is the CEO of Anteverti, a consulting company specialized on urban innovation. She is also Director of CitiesToBe (a digital platform that reflects on the present and the future of cities), and Curator of the international spin-offs of the Smart City Expo World Congress. She has more than 18 years of global experience advising cities, companies, and other institutions in creating their strategic vision and developing it through innovation, creativity and influence. She is a regular speaker and keynote and has participated in international conferences organized by the UN, OECD, European Commission, Urban Land Institute, or the Seoul Leaders Forum. In 2025, she has become a member of the Academic Board of the Norman Foster Institute on Sustainable Cities. Cristina has written for numerous publications and was an Associate Lecturer at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. She holds a BA in Visual Arts from the University of Barcelona, an MA in Urban Sociology from Goldsmiths, University of London, and completed in 2017 the Ignite program in business innovation at Stanford, Graduate School of Business (Stanford GSB).
