Dr Mary Roberts-Schirato and Dr Nancy Marquez (Victoria University of Wellington) In the age of Grammarly and other A.I.-based grammar-checking tools, we wanted to see what kinds of questions students have about their sentence-level writing structure. In previous years we have delivered prepared grammar content. This year we asked students to bring their grammar questions taken from something they are writing. We also gathered data directly from students about their attitudes to grammar along with their grammar queries and have turned this data into graphs and tables. At the end of the two trimesters, we will assess what we have learned from the experiment and use our new perspectives to help us reconsider our methods of providing grammar and punctuation support to students. What we learn from this may be useful to other Learning Advisors.
