The following information is preliminary and subject to change as this investigation continues. Here is a relevant video that will provide you with a brief overview of the officer-involved shooting that occurred on 4/10/2024. This video is intended to help you better understand the circumstances that led to this incident. On April 10th, 2024, at approximately 11:13 a.m. Lansing Police Department detectives were conducting a follow-up on a violent crime. Detectives requested assistance from uniformed officers in patrol cars to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect. The officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle as it entered a parking lot behind an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Holmes Rd. After several minutes of speaking with the suspect outside of the vehicle, officers attempted to place him in custody. At this point, the suspect attempted to flee on foot and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the accused disarmed a detective and discharged the firearm striking one officer and grazing another. At this point, one officer returned gunfire striking the accused in the lower left leg. Officers immediately performed life-saving measures on the accused before being transported to a local hospital. The Michigan State Police are investigating the shooting. As the investigating agency, the Michigan State Police have possession of all evidence involved in this case. Once the Michigan State Police have completed their investigation into the shooting and there is no likelihood of impeding the criminal investigation, the Lansing Police Department will initiate its internal investigation into policy compliance.
