Preparing a beehive for winter is more than just reducing entrances and adding feed — temperature stability and proper airflow are critical for colony survival. In this video, I show my DIY insulation method using polyethylene foam panels placed on both sides of a reduced 4-frame cluster, along with a top cover wrap to help maintain internal temperature as fall temperatures begin to drop. This method focuses on: ✔️ Maintaining a stable thermal zone around the cluster ✔️ Reducing heat loss from the sides ✔️ Allowing controlled airflow through the rear ventilation port ✔️ Preventing the colony from wasting energy on thermoregulation While this is an experimental setup, it’s designed to test whether lightweight foam can support bees in early fall and prevent cold stress before deep winter arrives. I’ll be monitoring moisture, airflow, and colony behavior closely to evaluate how effective this DIY approach is compared to traditional winter prep. 🔔 Subscribe for updates — I’ll share results, temperature readings, and final performance as winter progresses. --- 🔥 #Beekeeping #Beehive #WinterBees #BeekeepingTips #BeehiveInsulation #DIYBeekeeping #HoneyBees #BeekeeperLife #WinterizingTheHive #FallBeekeeping #BeeColony #HiveManagement #ColdWeatherBees #Apiary
