Here are some tips for taking cuttings and growing new Schefflera plants, also known as umbrella plants: When to take cuttings: Take 6-inch stem cuttings from a healthy plant in the summer How to take cuttings: Using sharp pruners, cut a section at a 45-degree angle near the main stem. Remove all but the top two to five leaves Prepare the cutting: Dip the cut end in rooting hormone Plant the cutting: Put the cutting in a small pot with a well-draining potting mix, such as a mix of peat and perlite, or soil-based compost with equal parts grit. Insert the cutting 1–2 inches deep, but keep half the stem above the soil Provide care: Place the pot in bright, indirect light and cover it with a plastic bag to increase humidity. Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. You can also mist the inside of the bag every couple of days.
