Rebuilding the Nose After Skin Cancer: My Innovative SENMI Flap Technique

As a plastic surgeon, I often encounter patients who have experienced failed reconstructions following skin cancer surgery. Today, I had the opportunity to perform a reconstruction using a technique I designed and published in 2020 - the SENMI flap. This minimally invasive approach allows us to rebuild all three layers of the nose: internal lining, structure, and external lining. While the initial defect may have been small, we needed to slightly enlarge it to ensure a successful reconstruction. The key is to use the patient's own nasal cartilage, which is of higher quality and more rigid than ear cartilage. This provides a predictable and solid result, allowing the patient to move forward with confidence. Reconstructive surgery can be a delicate process, but with the right techniques and expertise, we can help patients achieve their desired outcome and put their concerns behind them.
