Join Kathy Krafft, Exhibitions Curator from Sciencenter in Ithaca NY, for a fast-paced #MuseumFAQ video jam-packed with lots of great practical "nuts and bolts" tips and tricks for creating (and maintaining!) museum exhibits! Links and references related to our conversation: 1. Consumer Product Safety Commission (US government) publishes Public Playground Safety Handbook. Not everything applies to museums, but certainly look out for protrusion hazards (such as choosing with care over-sized, rounded "hooks" for smocks that will be down low), or head entrapment hazards, or pinch points. Free download: https://www.cpsc.gov/s3fs-public/325.pdf You can buy a commercial playground safety inspection toolkit for roughly $300 with gauges etc. here: http://www.safetyplay.net They also sell an "articulated probe" test device for finger pinch/shearing hazards 2. Small Parts: Consumer Product Safety Commission has guidelines for small parts for children under 3 years old. You can purchase a small tube for checking parts for choking hazards for a few dollars at child-safety vendors: https://www.cpsc.gov/Business--Manufa... 3.
