I never want someone to feel like they can't get into making sourdough unless they have all the fancy gadgets. When you're just starting out, you want to see if you even enjoy making it before spending money on items that will just sit in your kitchen. I love all my tools, and I stand behind them, but I didn't buy everything all at once. I gradually invested in tools I felt would level up my bread or make my life easier. So let me show you that you can make a great loaf of sourdough with what you have in your kitchen. I will say a food scale is one of those tools that I just truly feel is going to help you. It doesn't have to be a top of the line scale but just something to help you get more accurate measurements than measuring cups (in my personal opinion). Also, it's less washing to do in the end (I can just pour my starter right in my bowl). But I am showing you that you can do it with measuring cups. A fork, your hands, a bowl, a tea towel and a knife. These are all things you should already have. 😉 Use what you have and invest as you go (if you want to, of course). And then the two loaf pan method is just such a great way to bake without a Dutch oven. Two loaf pans will usually run you under $20 if you don't already have them. Another option is using those old-school roasting pans. I feel like everyone has one of those. Anyways....hope this helps someone not feel so influenced in needing to spend a bunch of $$ to make good bread (especially to get started).
