After 50 years, NSCN-IM leader Th Muivah returns to Manipur’s Somdal, his birthplace in Ukhrul

Thuingangleng Muivah, Ato Kilonser of the NSCN/GPRN, returned to his birthplace, Somdal in Ukhrul district, after six decades, marking a historic and emotional moment for the Naga community. Thuingangleng Muivah, Ato Kilonser of the NSCN/GPRN, returned to his birthplace, Somdal in Ukhrul district, after six decades, marking a historic and emotional moment for the Naga community. The homecoming ceremony at Tangkhul Naga Long Ground, Ukhrul headquarters, saw the participation of local leaders, civil society organizations, church representatives, and well-wishers from both valley and hill regions, reflecting widespread support and anticipation for the occasion. Lieut. General (Retd.) VS Atem, Deputy Ato Kilonser, read out Th. Muivah’s message, in which he reflected on his revolutionary journey that began in 1964 and expressed gratitude to God, the organizing committees, civil society groups, churches, and the governments of India, Nagaland, and Manipur for facilitating his return to his birthplace. In his message, Th. Muivah paid tribute to generations of Naga leaders and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Nagalim. He stressed the continued defense of Nagalim’s sovereignty and recalled the historic milestones in the Naga political struggle, including the Indo-Naga ceasefire and political peace process (1997), the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué (2002), and the Framework Agreement (2015). These milestones, he noted, formally recognize Nagalim’s unique history, sovereignty, and political identity. Th. Muivah also highlighted the incomplete implementation of the Framework Agreement, particularly the recognition of the Naga national flag and constitution, stressing that these symbols, along with Nagalim’s sovereignty, are non-negotiable. He urged all Nagas to remain united, vigilant, and committed to defending their history, identity, and national mandate. The ceremony included hymns, choir performances by Pams Kindergarten, Galilee Choir, and Wungramso Team, blessings from church leaders, and tributes to Naga freedom fighters who shaped the struggle across regions and generations. Maj. Retd. Hutovi Chishi Swu, Convenor of the Steering Committee, expressed gratitude on behalf of the organizers, acknowledging the support of volunteers, civil society members, and well-wishers who facilitated the event. #ukhrul #manipur #nagaland #thuingalengmuivah #live Join ANI's YouTube membership to get access to perks:    / @aninewsindia   Subscribe now and press the bell icon 🔔 to get new video updates: https://bit.ly/2UV4ygi -------------------------------------- ANI is South Asia's leading Multimedia News Agency providing content for every information platform, including TV, Internet, broadband, newspapers, and mobiles.
