Despite her success, Meredith was desperately lonely, so lonely she created an imaginary friend, a clown who was as sad as she was. While researching for her next novel in Forgotten Hollow, Meredith was taken away by a detective who was obsessed with her. Her ghost travelled back to her house, where she could go on barely living. Devastated by the loss of Meredith, her imaginary friend decided to join her in the afterlife, not willing to go on without her.
