Quazigund Banihal Road Tunnel - India's Largest Road Tunnel | CW Projects

Tunneling through the mountains of Jammu & Kashmir is no easy task and the project underway between Qazigund and Banihal, a few kilometers northeast of Jammu, is no exception. Quazigund Banihal road tunnel is one of the most critical projects for India as it ensures all-weather connectivity to north Kashmir through Pir Panjal Pass, a road prone to closure due to severe weather conditions. Navayuga Engineering Company was entrusted with the challenge of building one of India’s longest road tunnels that includes a 2-lane twin tunnel of 8.45 km long, 7m high, 11m wide and 10 m in diameter. Built at a cost of 2,100 crore, the tunnel shortens the distance between Srinagar and Jammu by 16 kilometers. In addition, it reduces travel time by 1 to 3 hours between Quazigund and Banihal depending upon the traffic on the existing Highway.
