Witch marks or apotropaic marks are found on many old buildings. Learn here the meaning behind witch marks otherwise known as apotropaic marks. Tisbury tithe barn is a 15th century building located in the rural countryside of Wiltshire, England. It has recently been carefully and lovingly restored and is now home to Messums Wiltshire which is a multi-purpose gallery and art studio. Tisbury tithe barn is home to where is Englands biggest thatched roof and is Englands longest barn but not to where is Englands biggest barn. On the inside of the barn you can find apotropaic daisy wheel witch marks which were carved into the stonework during medieval times in the belief that they would ward off evil spirits.
