Africa’s demographic future is both its greatest promise and its most pressing challenge. Young people now constitute a significant share of the continent’s population, yet economic opportunities lag far behind. According to recent estimates, roughly 121 million young Africans aged 15 to 35 are unemployed or classified as Not in Education , Employment, or Training (NEET) representing about 23% of this age group across the continent. This figure is projected to rise, highlighting a troubling trajectory despite ongoing development efforts. (Monitor) At the same time, regional unemployment disparities are stark: in parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, youth joblessness ranges widely, with some countries recording extremely high rates. For example, certain nations have youth unemployment well above the continental average, reflecting structural labour-market bottlenecks across regions. (TheGlobalEconomy.com) These statistics capture a reality too many African young people experience daily: despite education and aspiration, barriers to decent work remain formidable. Need for a collective Voice In this dynamic global geopolitical environment, passive participation is no longer an option for young Africans; Africa’s leaders of tomorrow, those in charge of the continent’s national Youth Councils/Authorities/Federations, must engage collectively and strategically today. A Continental Gathering of Influential Voices Coming together from across the continent and beyond and speaking with one voice as youth leaders of National Youth Councils/Authorities/Federations, to confront these common challenges and co-design pathways for opportunity, agency, and resilience, must be prioritised to reflect a truly continental strategic representation. Such strategic collaborations and alliances enable youth leaders the opportunity to devise practical pathways for youth empowerment, institutional reform, entrepreneurship ideation; and continental collaboration. From Conversation to Strategic Action AFLIGA’S NextGen Africa Talk 2026 is thus, designed to foster and promote such new ways of youth development thinking to include students, policymakers, researchers, academics, entrepreneurs, youth leaders, and development experts to yield tangible outcomes beyond politics. Such approaches will enable youth leaders gain: • Strategic insights into Africa’s positioning in a shifting global order • Policy-oriented discussions linking youth development and employment to structural reforms • Foster Cross-regional networking and innovation opportunities • Exposure to institutional frameworks shaping youth development • Opportunities for collaborations and future continental initiatives By linking youth unemployment to macro-level global shifts, NEXTGEN Africa Talk 2026, reframes job creation and youth development, not as an isolated issue, but as a strategic imperative intertwined with governance, investment policy, and Africa’s role in a multipolar world. 🌐 Connect With Us - https://afliga.org/ Follow us for more thought-provoking content, events, and discussions: 👉 Bigne Watch All Our Videos: • Welcome to RELIGION AND ENTERPRISE TV 👉 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/afliga1/?hl=en 👉 Facebook: / afliga1 Welcome to Channel 63 – Africa’s Voice for Transformation Fellow African, welcome to Channel 63, your trusted network spotlighting the rise of Africa.
